At the age of 8 years old, Maureen began her dancing career in her home town of Motherwell, with the Taylor School (Teacher - Jean Taylor A.D.C.R.G). Maureen proved to have the knack for Irish Dancing, winning her first championship at the age of 11. Maureen went on to have a very successful dancing career, winning many many open championships throughout Scotland, England and Ireland.
Maureen retired from dancing at the age of 19, to get married and start a family. Less than 8 years later, Maureen was back involved in the Irish Dancing circles, with her daughter Cara, who also had a very successful dancing career.
In 1995, Maureen strived for further involvement in Irish Dancing, and opened up her own dance school, registered under 'An Comhdhail', in Motherwell. Over the past 10 years, Maureen has proved to be a successful teacher, expanding her classes further within the Lanarkshire area, and producing many champions. Maureen has also been fortunate to have the help of her daughter, Cara, who will be sitting her T.C.R.G examination later on this year, and will hopefully become an official teacher within the school.
Maureen and Cara have a great partnership, which works well within the class, each bringing their own personal qualities, and experience to the creativity and teaching side of things.
In December 2005, Maureen decided on ventures new and moved organisations to teach under 'An Coimisiun'. To date Maureen has achieved many successes within this organisation with her dancers lifting many Championships throughout the UK and she is proud to have taken her dancers to the World Championships at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow in 2007 at their 1st Attempt.
